Spot metering

Spot metering is a camera metering mode that measures the light from a small area of the scene, typically around 1-5% of the frame. This allows you to get a more accurate exposure reading for a specific part of the scene, rather than relying on the overall brightness of the scene. Spot metering can be useful in situations where the subject is backlit or in a high-contrast environment, as it allows you to expose for the subject rather than the background.
